A well-liked pub has issued a warning to parents following several injuries in its play area. Earlier this year, the playground at The Airport Pub reopened after a significant refurbishment.
Located adjacent to the bustling runway of Manchester Airport, it's always been a favourite spot for plane enthusiasts, including kids who enjoy watching the planes take off and land.
However, since its reopening, there have been several incidents, prompting the staff to appeal to parents via social media to supervise their children, reports the MEN.
In posts shared on Facebook and Instagram on Saturday, the pub detailed the injuries sustained by children - one of which included a boy breaking his arm.
"We would like to remind all visitors that children must be supervised at all times whilst on the play area," read the post.
"Over recent weeks there have been multiple reports of children hurting themselves due to misuse of the equipment, the most major being a young boy breaking his arm.
"There have also been instances of children hitting/scratching other children. On all occasions, the children have been unsupervised which makes establishing exactly what has happened difficult without reviewing CCTV."
The post emphasises: "If there is a family seated inside but we notice only the parents/adults at the table whilst the children are on the play area, we will inform you that they need to be supervised. Thanks in advance for your cooperation."
A disclaimer notice from the play area was also included in the post, clearly stating: "Parents must supervise children at all times."
The message outlines that the designated play area is intended for those under 12 years of age and details various rules including no smoking or vaping and no glassware.
The recently completed refurbishment has enhanced and enlarged both the airplane feature and the play space that were originally introduced seven years ago, much to the delight of visiting families.
Designed with accessibility and inclusivity at its heart, the innovative plane includes a mix of sensory elements, widened entry points at ground level, and interactive components designed for imaginative play.
Not just geared towards fun, the updated playground has taken an educational turn by incorporating a sign language plaque, creating a learning environment for deaf and hard-of-hearing children and their families as well as offering anyone interested the chance to pick up some sign language skills.
The specially designed inclusive play area boasts wheelchair-friendly features like a roundabout, a slide tailored for toddlers, and a host of educational panels powered by solar energy to reduce environmental impact.
The social media posts to customers have since been edited to remove specific details about the incidents at the Robinsons-owned pub.
The current messages simply request that patrons supervise their children, highlighting that staff will approach those who leave children unattended in the play area.
A spokesperson for the venue remarked: "The message The Airport team wanted to get across was the importance of close supervision on the play equipment. It's an extremely busy pub with lots of children using the equipment every day. We want everyone to have a great time in the pub and ensuring the safety of everyone is paramount.
"We of course do everything at our end to ensure risk assessments and procedures are in place and work with the EHO (environmental health officers) to do so, but this still requires the cooperation of our visitors too. We're lucky to have a great and unique spot for families to visit and love seeing the children making the most of the play area."
