Robert Benton, who won two Oscars for his work on Kramer vs. Kramer, has died at the age of 92. His longtime assistant and manager, Marisa Forzano, told The New York Times he died on Sunday, May 11 at his home in Manhattan. Throughout his career he was considered an “actor’s director,” and attracted big names to his productions. “Before I directed for the first time, I remember walking down the street and thinking, ‘How can I direct people to just speak normally?'” he said in a 2013 interview with The Hollywood Reporter. “And later I learned, you just hire good actors.”
He began his career as a writer and co-wrote the iconic Faye Dunaway and Warren Beatty drama Bonnie and Clyde in 1967. He was Oscar nominated for that screenplay. His writing was also acknowleded with a nod for 1977's The Late Show and 1994's Nobody’s Fool (1994).
