Lorraine Kelly has opened up on a "struggle" with her health that left her feeling like she wasn't herself. The ITV star admitted that she "couldn't really understand what was going on" as she approached close friend and co-star Dr Hilary for help and advice.
Speaking at the Ideal Home Show at Olympia London earlier this week, bringing up the topic of menopause, the 65-year-old Scottish TV host shared: "We asked a lot of high-profile women if they would they come on and just chat about menopause for us. Because I was going through it myself, and I was finding it quite a struggle."
She continued: "I was feeling a bit flat and not myself, and I couldn't really understand what was going on. And in the end, we couldn't get anybody so Dr Hilary and I just swapped seats, and he interviewed me about it."
“At that time, I think there was a lot of other women who were ready to actually get this out into the open," Lorraine added. "And now, of course, everybody talks about it. Let's just talk about things and not be embarrassed.
"I was sort of worried to start with about raising it as an issue as work for discrimination or ageism. I think we've got better. It normalises it for us, and the response from viewers was huge, absolutely huge. And what a relief, great relief.”
Speaking on her self-named ITV show, Lorraine previously confessed that a "patch" on her bottom has "changed" her life. She shared: "Some patches actually do work. I have got an HRT patch on my bottom as we speak and it has change my life. So somethings do actually work."
On another episode she mentioned it again, adding: "It didn't take too long. I honestly thought I was losing it. I lost myself. I was flat. No joy. Nothing was going right, and then I went and got help. I know HRT is not for everyone. But please don't dismiss it."
The NHS explains: "Hormone replacement therapy (HRT) is a treatment to relieve symptoms of the menopause. It replaces hormones that are at a lower level as you approach the menopause."
Lorraine Kelly was speaking at the Ideal Home Show at Olympia London, which runs from Friday 21st March to Sunday 6th April. Find out more at www.idealhomeshow.co.uk
