If you’ve got European travel plans this summer but don’t want to break the bank on your holiday, then there’s one place you can go for a taste of luxury without a hefty price tag. New research from Which? has revealed where the cheapest luxury hotels across the globe are.
A team of researchers sifted through listings for hotels that were advertised as five stars on Hotels.com to find the most affordable luxury accommodation across the world. Researchers excluded any hotels with a lower customer rating than eight out of 10, or properties in especially hard to reach locations. In Europe there was one clear winner - The Grand Hotel Continental Bucharest, Romania.
At £87 a night, this centrally-located hotel has a turn-down service and a concierge to book tickets and recommend restaurants. There’s a hot tub, sauna and gym, plus a fine-dining restaurant – including silverware, candelabras, baroque furniture and waistcoated waiters.
One guest said the hotel offered a “grand experience at an affordable price”.
Romania is an affordable destination overall, with everyday essentials coming in at a fraction of the price of the UK.
Bucharest, Romania’s capital city, has all the elements needed for a good city break, with tree-lined avenues, charming museums, stunning architecture and a thriving hospitality scene, where a pint can be bought for as little as £2.41 and a bottle of wine for £5.16.
As well as its low prices, Romania is also home to jaw-dropping scenery and bustling cities to explore.
Bucharest is also one of the most walkable cities in Europe, so getting around is easy - and there’s so much beauty to explore.
The city is situated on the banks of the Dâmbovița River, which flows into the Argeș River, a tributary of the Danube.
Several lakes - the most important of which are Lake Herăstrău, Lake Floreasca, Lake Tei, and Lake Colentina – stretch across the northern parts of the city.
