Jamie Oliver has shared the one thing that makes his mum's Sunday roasts "legendary".

The celebrity chef reflected fondly on joining his mum in the kitchen to russle up her weekly roast dinner, saying: "Her roast dinners are legendary because they bring the whole family together."

Recalling how his mum has the ability to make sure everyone is pulling their weight in the kitchen, he shared what a typical Sunday afternoon would look like inside his parent's household:"She has a knack for getting everyone involved: one of us would be basting the meat, another shaking up the roasties, and someone else on gravy duty."

While he shared his mum's passion for getting the whole family involved in the kitchen, he revealed in The Times' Weekend magazine how it is something that he has taken with him throughout his career: "For her, it's about making people feel looked after, and that's something I've carried with me. It turns cooking into a family affair, which, for me, is what food is all about."

Jamie has previously shared how he goes about making one key component of the meal.

Providing the "top tip" via his website, the 49-year-old wrote: "I’ve used a joint of topside here because it is by far the most widely available roasting joint, but you can also use rib of beef."

He added: "The meat has to be rested after cooking for at least half an hour and sliced really thinly for you to enjoy the tenderness. The timings below are just a guide, as they can differ depending on the type of oven you have or the size of the joint."

Meanwhile, Jamie's career has stemmed across decades, and he has come to be recognised as one of the nation's favourite cooks having shared his pasion in countless cookery books as well as imparting his wisdom across his TV series including Jamie at Home and Jamie's 15-Minute Meals as well as many more.

More recently it was announced that he is set to appear in the newest series of Netflix's Chef’s Table: Legends, with the new season set to air next month.
