An angry couple have put up signs reading "shoddy homes" outside their house in a bid to put people off moving onto their estate. Simon and Kelly moved into their £300,000 property last October but have since faced a fight to get a number of issues fixed.
Their home, on the Bilsthorpe Chase estate in Nottingham, has been plagued with issues, including a flood in the garden and a broken boiler. The couple have also put up a sign which claims Harron Homes "treat their customers with the utmost disrespect".
However, as reported by Birmingham Live, the developer has insisted it was "committed to resolving issues appropriately". Simon and Kelly have also alleged that a former Harron Homes employee described them as a "pain" in an email.
It comes after their MP Michelle Welsh organised a debate on the issue in Westminster Hall last Tuesday (March 25). She spoke about the poor construction standards in new build homes.
The Labour MP said: "When moving into a new home, a high quality and safe living environment is expected. We should not be expecting anyone to live in properties that do not meet these standards.
"What has further shocked me about this case is the treatment of my constituents by Harron Homes. In an email, Kelly and Simon were described as 'a pain' and they have had to wait weeks for repairs, and even just for a response. They deserve better, yet they are not alone in their experience."
Simon, 53, said his new home included an incorrectly fitted and sized boiler cylinder. It reportedly left his family without heating for three days.
They also had an improperly installed bath and there were scratches on the windows. Simon claims there was also dirty carpets and tiles with grout on that could not be removed.
He said: "Anything you need out of them to help you proactively, they won't do.They're not bothered, they've got your money and you've probably got more protection on a can of baked beans from Sainsbury's.
"In my opinion, they should have a separate company to deal with the snagging issues, not let their customers suffer at the hands of poor workmanship. Our signs have put a few people off and we're pleased with that, because we're trying to warn people about the problems here."
Kelly added: "For a new build, they may as well have pulled it down and started again. I've had to give up four months of my life fighting this."
A spokesperson for Harron Holmes responded: "We are aware of the concerns raised in the Westminster Hall debate and note the comments made in relation to our Bilsthorpe Chase development. We always aim to deliver high-quality homes, and we take all customer feedback seriously.
"While we cannot discuss individual cases in detail, we are reviewing the matters raised in this instance in line with our internal procedures. All Harron Homes properties are subject to inspection and benefit from a 10-year NHBC warranty.
"We remain committed to resolving issues appropriately and ensuring our customers are supported throughout their time with us. We are engaging with the customer and will continue to work to address any outstanding concerns."
