The UK could be hit by a late blast of snowfall and plummeting temperatures just as Brits adjust to a spell of warmer spring weather. Maps created by WXCharts show a blitz of snow descending across a 500-mile stretch of the country from Scotland to Kent midway through next month, with a blanket of purple spreading across the UK on Monday, April 14. The data shows a drop in temperature to below freezing for most of Scotland and parts of northern England, with southern regions also dipping to around 0C.

Between 5cm and 10cm of snow could fall on the north eastern Scottish coast near Aberdeen, with depths of around 5cm also set to accumulate in north west England around Newcastle. Snowfall of around 2cm is also expected to hit the Yorkshire coast in the early hours of April 14, with 1.5mm of rainfall also expected to batter eastern coastal regions at around the same time.

Later in the morning, the snowy conditions are forecast to spread southwards, with between 3cm and 10cm of snow falling on a stretch of southeastern England by 6am.

The flurries will be most intense around Suffolk and Kent, with snow also expected to hit London and a swathe of Hertfordshire and Essex, according to WXCharts.

It comes after parts of the country recorded highs in the low 20s over the weekend, with meteorologists suggesting that the warm spell would continue throughout this week, though could be offset by overnight frosts and cool breezes in some areas.

The Met Office's long-range forecast from April 4 to April 14 falls short of predicting fresh snowfall but does warn of low cloud, fog and nighttime frosts, especially in coastal areas.

"Later in the period, it may turn more unsettled at times as rain or showers try [to] push in from the west," a spokesperson said.

"Daytime temperatures will tend to fluctuate depending on the wind direction and cloud amounts, with the potential for warm conditions at times but also cooler interludes."

Weather across the country is expected to take a turn for the better from late April onwards, with conditions at the end of the month projected to be "fine and dry" with temperatures above average for the time of year thanks to a high pressure weather front heralding a return to a sunny and warm spring.
