Warm and sunny weather forecasts haven't been enough to offset the risk of flooding in regions across the UK, with 45 warnings and alerts currently in force. While Brits kick off a long-awaited week of springlike weather, with highs of 18C forecast for the next few days, the risk of waterways around the country breaking their banks remains.

The Environment Agency has issued four warnings and 41 alerts across the country for flooding caused by tidal patterns, groundwater and overflowing rivers. It also warned of "stormy conditions" at sea and accumulated winter rainfall continuing to have repercussions in waterlogged areas. Flood warnings, which indicate that immediate action is required, are in force for areas around the Mersey Estuary in Warrington, Cheshire, Hornsea in Yorkshire, Brockweir in Gloucestershire and the Alkborough Flats in Lincolnshire. These areas are all expected to be hit by high tides and strong winds that could impact properties and roads.

Residents have also been urged to stay away from beaches, promenades and coastal footpaths due to the risk of "dangerous large waves and sea spray".

Meanwhile, flood alerts - indicating that communities should be prepared for possible flooding - have been issued for areas including Climping seafront in West Sussex and coastal regions across England, from North Morecambe Bay in Lancashire to the Suffolk coast in Southwold.

People living in the areas under alert have been warned to avoid using low-lying footpaths or bridges near watercourses, and have also been advised not to attempt walking or driving through floodwater.
