A man who was attacked by an XL Bully in Warrington has died. The 84-year-old sustained severe injuries during the attack on Monday, February 24, while walking home.
Despite being taken to the hospital, he died on Sunday, following weeks of medical treatment. His next of kin have been informed and are receiving support from specialist officers. Detective Inspector Simon Mills of Cheshire Police expressed his condolences, stating, "This was a tragic incident, and our thoughts are with the family of the victim at this difficult time. The victim has fought so hard since the attack, but sadly his injuries were too much.
"To endure such pain at the hands of an animal is unimaginable, and I cannot begin to comprehend the distress his family is experiencing."
A 30-year-old man from Warrington has been charged with one count of being the owner of a dangerously out-of-control dog, which caused serious injury, and two counts of possession or custody of a dog to which section 1 of the Dangerous Dogs Act 1991 applies, namely an XL Bully.
The Crown Prosecution Service has been notified of the victim's death and will review whether any changes to the charges are necessary.
