Rebecca Loos has slammed accusations that she fabricated her claims about an alleged affair with footballer David Beckham in the early 2000s, shortly after he married his wife, Victoria Beckham. Despite David's consistent denials that anything occurred, Loos maintains her story is true, describing her decision to come forward as an act of bravery given the power and influence of the Beckham couple.
Speaking during an interview on 60 Minutes Australia, the Dutch former glamour model, 47, blasted: "In my opinion, it was a very brave thing to do to go up against them. I have stuck to the truth. I've never exaggerated. I never lied about a single thing. Why? Because I'm going up against the strongest, most powerful couple in the media who have all the money in the world for the best PR, the best lawyers. And all I had on my side was the truth."
The controversy first surfaced in 2004, prompting a slew of media coverage and public scrutiny. The former Manchester United and England star later addressed the allegations in a recent Netflix documentary, reflecting on the strain the accusations took on his marriage.
He confessed: "I don’t know how we got through it in all honesty. Victoria is everything to me". Posh Spice added her perspective in the documentary, revealing the emotional strain it placed on their relationship.
She explained: "It felt like the world was against us. And here’s the thing - we were against each other if I’m being completely honest." Responding to the documentary, Loos accused David of indirectly implying that she was responsible for the pain Victoria endured.
The model told 60 Minutes: "Yes, the stories were horrible, but they’re true. He talks in the documentary about this ultimately being his private life, shutting it down. I think it’s one thing to keep your private life to yourself. It’s another thing to mislead the public."
Further elaborating on her views in a recent interview, Loos criticised David for portraying himself as the victim in the saga. The Mirror reported: "I understand he has an image to preserve, but he is portraying himself as the victim and he’s making me look like a liar, like I’ve made up these stories. It’s all, ‘Poor me.’ He needs to take responsibility."
In response to the ongoing allegations and public speculation, 49-year-old football ace David has firmly denied any wrongdoing. He said in a statement at the time: "During the past few months I have become accustomed to reading more and more ludicrous stories about my private life.
"What appeared this morning is just one further example. The simple truth is that I am very happily married and have a wonderful wife and two very special kids. There is nothing any third party can do to change this."
