Prince Harry “regrets” leaving the Royal Family to start a new life in the US, a former royal butler who worked with the duke has revealed. Grant Harrold, who worked for King Charles from 2004 until 2011 when he was the Prince of Wales, said that Harry’s move to America in 2020 with his wife Meghan Markle, 43, was a “big move” after they quit royal duty.

Grant, who spent a lot of time with Harry during his royal butler days, also believes that the duke probably has “some regrets” about leaving his family behind. Speaking on behalf of Slingo, Grant said: “There’s part of me that thinks Harry does have some regrets about the fact that he’s left his home life, his friends and his family behind to start a new life in the US. It was a big move with a lot of sacrifice.”

He continued: “For Meghan, she still had her friends and, to an extent, her family in the form of her mum, so she didn’t have to make as huge a sacrifice.

“But I'm a huge believer in fate and things happen for a reason.”

While the prince, 40, may have some regrets about leaving the UK five years ago, he has praised his life in America and even said he was “grateful” to be raising his children Prince Archie, five, and Princess Lilibet, three, in America.

The family have lived on a sprawling estate in Montecito since 2020.

Just last year, Harry spoke at The New York Times DealBook Online Summit where he said: "I very much enjoy living here and bringing my kids up here.

“It’s a part of my life that I never thought I was going to live.

“I feel as though it's the life that my mum wanted for me. To be able to do the things I'm able to do with my kids that I undoubtedly wouldn't be able to do in the UK — it's huge.

“That is a fantastic opportunity and I'm hugely grateful for that."
