This small coffee shop chain might not have as big a reputation as Starbucks and Costa, but some say it’s even better. Trading Post Coffee Roasters is a popular choice for those in Sussex looking to stop by a cafe. The small chain has stores in Brighton, Lewes, Chichester, Worthing, and Horsham. Its first store opened in January 2017 on Ship Street in Brighton.

It became a local favourite and was soon followed by another store in Kensington Gardens, Brighton. The cafe offers a brunch menu with delicious food options for those wishing to grab a bite to eat.

By 2024, it had opened further stores across Sussex with a total of 10 coffee houses across the South Coast.

The chain is independent and a family-run business, it also focuses on sustainability.

A visitor on Tripadvisor said: “The coffee is probably some of the best coffee I’ve tasted for a long time and the breakfast was to die for.

“The full English with poached egg looked good and tasted incredible and it was also very good value for money. A great end to what was a fantastic weekend in Brighton with friends.”

Another said: “Coffee break whilst out shopping with family. Lovely place, great vibe to sit and watch the world go by.

“The menu looked really good, as did the cakes but we didn't try anything to eat. The coffee was delicious and miles better than Starbucks, Costa etc etc.”

As part of the brunch menu, visitors can enjoy a range of meals including a full English breakfast for £13.95 or a pancake stack from £11.95.

But if these aren’t to your taste, there are plenty of other options from poached or scrambled eggs for £9.25 or a classic croque monsieur from £12.95.

One stand out item on the menu is the plant-based hash bowl which consists of roasted chickpeas, roasted red pepper, sauteed new potatoes, red onion, spinach and kale, with butternut squash and pesto.

If you’re looking for a lighter bite rather than a whole meal, you can try the classic banana bread, seasonal soup, yoghurt and granola bowl or even toast.
