Katie Price has sparked outrage among her followers after reports surfaced regarding her decision to invest in a greyhound racing dog, despite the tragic history of pet loss under her care. Over the years, the glamour model has faced significant backlash due to the untimely deaths of several animals she owned, including five dogs, a horse, and a chameleon, leading to a growing movement against her ability to own pets.
In total, a petition has garnered an alarming 37,000 signatures from concerned animal lovers advocating for her to be stripped of her pet ownership rights. Many of these animals suffered unfortunate fates, with several being involved in traffic accidents while living at her Sussex residence. The news of her potential co-ownership of a female greyhound named Barbie Bullet has ignited further anger among animal rights activists, who view this decision as reckless given her previous record.
According to The Sun, Katie, who was previously photographed with the puppy in October, believes that her investment in the pet will bring her a great deal of "fun and joy."
A source told the publication: 'Katie adores animals, and this is a way for her to make a little bit of money potentially. It’s not a lucrative sport though, so she mostly wants to get a bit of fun and joy out of her investment.
"Racing dogs have good people around them who give them attentive care, and Barbie Bullet is no different. There’s absolutely no need to worry about the welfare of this dog."
A representative of Katie's has been contacted by Express.co.uk for comment.
Barbie Bullet, a two-year-old greyhound, has participated in 41 races, winning six. Her most recent performance was on March 1, when she secured a third-place finish. According to information from the sports data site Timeform, Barbie Bullet has four owners, one of whom is Miss K Price. Another owner is Miss L A Rickwood, believed to be Lynne Rickwood, a close friend of Katie.
Meanwhile, the petition to stop the model from owning pets continues to grow, with signatures every day after being set up in 2020 when a puppy died in the 24 hours she was in Katie's care. The petition starter wrote on the website: "This isn't a single-family tragedy. It's a common thing in Katie Price's home. Two dogs have been ran over. Puppies were found dead drowning in a neglected swimming pool. A horse was run over on a motorway. Animals go missing in her home, never to be seen again. Her guard dog broke into her neighbour's garden and killed their chickens".
However, the 46-year-old has insisted that all of these incidents were purely accidental and involved circumstances that were "out of her hands." She previously hit back at those who criticise her by explaining: "It’s no lack of me not looking after them or anything like that. I love animals; I love nurturing."
