Val Kilmer confessed to having one true love among his numerous high-profile romances.

The Top Gun actor has dated likes of Cindy Crawford, Angelina Jolie, and Cher, but it was his split from actress Daryl Hannah he admitted finding the most painful.

In his 2020 memoir titled I'm Your Huckleberry, he wrote: "Lord knows I've suffered heartache. But Daryl was by far the most painful of all."

He went on to take a swipe at Neil Young, who Daryl married in 2018, adding: "Neil Young, I always loved you, but I'm afraid I hate you now."

The actor went on to say he "knew" he would love Hannah with his "whole heart forever and that love has lost none of its strength".

"I am still in love with Daryl. When we broke up, I cried every single day for half a year," he continued.

The couple started dating after they worked together on the 2002 film Hard Cash, but reportedly went their separate ways a year or two later.

Val was previously married to actress Joanne Whalley from 1988 to 1996, with whom he had two children, Mercedes, 33, and Jack, 29.

Mercedes announced the death of her father to The New York Times on Tuesday.

She revealed he had been battling pneumonia, having previously overcome throat cancer in 2014.

Tracheotomy surgery impacted his voice at the time, which led to a brief break from acting.

He later made a return to the screen, most recently in the 2022 hit Top Gun: Maverick alongside Tom Cruise.

Also in his book, the actor expressed gratitude towards his ex Cher, who he dated back in the 1980s.

He wrote: "Once Cher works her way inside your head and heart, she never leaves.

"For her true friends, her steadfast love and loyalty never die."

Addressing his cancer battle, he added: "I have been healed of cancer for over four years now, and there has never been any reoccurrence. I am so grateful."
