Meghan Markle has been in the public spotlight for years and has been a victim of social media trolling and hate since marrying Prince Harry in 2018. While the Duchess of Sussex, 43, has spoken about her struggles in the spotlight before, she has not commented much over the last few years about the continuous criticism against her.

However, in an interview with The New York Times this week, Meghan had a very blunt response when the interviewer flagged up social media posts that had been made against the duchess since the release of her Netflix show last month. After “With Love, Meghan” aired, viewers quickly criticised her Le Creuset cooking pots. The duchess appeared unaware of this criticism when told about it during the interview and seemed baffled by the situation.

She said in a blunt six-word response: “This is a thing, in 2025?”

She then threw her hands up in confusion and turned to her mother Doria Ragland.

Doria said: “Everyone is coming in hot these days.”

While Meghan still gets trolled on social media sites such as X, the duchess has not been trolled on her own direct Instagram account.

This is because each post has the comment section turned off, meaning that trolls are not given the opportunity to express hate on the duchess’ Instagram account.

It is also believed that Meghan does not read content about herself online, with The New York Times saying that she has a team who “comb comment sections and social media” so she doesn’t have to.

Despite facing various criticisms since the release of her Netflix show last month, this has not stopped her achieving success with the launch of her brand As Ever yesterday.

Prince Harry’s wife said her heart was “full” after her brand products sold out in less than an hour. It is believed she is planning to restock the brand’s products in the near future.
