Wynne Evans is returning to the stage later this year following his Strictly Come Dancing axe. The 53-year-old opera singer - best known for appearing in the GoCompare adverts - competed in the BBC dance competition alongside Katya Jones and starred in the nationwide tour earlier this year. However, he stepped down from the tour after it emerged that he had made a comment that was deemed sexually inappropriate during a photo call. It was revealed that Wynne had used the sexually suggestive term "spit roast" to describe host Janette Manrara during a private joke.
Following the controversy, Wynne took time off from presenting his show on BBC Radio Wales to "prioritise his wellbeing." He has now slowly started to re-emerge on social media after weeks of silence and has his first performance confirmed later in August.
Wynne has been announced as a headliner for the Wight Proms Festival. The singer joins Lee Mead, the comedy cabaret group Fascinating Aida, and former Strictly Come Dancing star Giovanni Pernice.
He is expected to perform during the Last Wight of the Proms, while Giovanni will take the stage on Saturday evening. Fans have been teased about his upcoming gig, where Giovanni will "spill the beans on what it is like touring with Anton Du Beke."
Following his crude remark in January, Wynne wrote on Instagram: "I've agreed with the BBC that l'll take some time out from my radio show and the Strictly Live tour, as well as my other public commitments, to prioritise my wellbeing.
"I am deeply sorry for the pain my inappropriate actions have caused, and plan to take this time for self-reflection. Apologies to those I won't get to see at the remaining performances and I'm grateful to my fellow tour gang for all the amazing support they have given me."
The opera singer was unable to dance during one night of the tour because of an ankle injury, but BBC bosses were not aware of his comment and informed Wynne that this type of behaviour would not be tolerated.
