Greece is among UK holidaymakers' favourite destinations, and rightfully so. The gorgeous Mediterranean country boasts a vibrant culture, incredible food, unspoilt beaches and remarkable landmarks. In 2024, Greece saw a record-breaking 35.9 million tourists jet over to one of its many holiday spots, and it remains one of the most visited countries in the world. With such a large number of travellers visiting the country every year, you would expect to see crowds of tourists during the more popular season.

Although that might be the case for some of its more popular destinations, such as Mykonos, which draws in over two million visitors every year,  or Santinori, attracting 3.4 million a year, Greece does have some hidden gems which are just as beautiful. The island of Paxos is a great example.

The stunning Greek island just south of Corfu is home to crystal clear waters, hidden coves and picturesque beaches, but what separates it from islands like Mykonos and Santinori is the authentic relaxing experience it provides, thanks to the fact that the island only attracts around 250,000 tourists every year.

Dotted along the coastline are around 30 beaches, all showcasing the island's beauty in different ways. Erimitis is considered one of the best beaches on the island and has a TripAdvisor rating of 4.6 stars.

The traditional villages, including Gaios, Loggos, and Lakka are also extremely worth visiting to get a real experience of this small island's culture. Additionally, the narrow streets, colourful houses, and tavernas are also absolutely stunning to gaze at.

Paxos doesn't have its own airport; instead, tourists usually fly to Corfu and then get a boat to the island, but a boat trip isn't only used to take you there. You can also rent one or join a guided boat tour to explore every inch of the island as well as its islets.

Or, if you prefer to explore on foot, there are plenty of scenic trails that will give you a great insight into the Paxos heritage in olive oil production and the wine industry. The walking paths will take visitors through olive groves, vineyards and, of course, the beautiful coast, where you can take in incredible views of the Ionian Sea.
