A professional bull rider was tragically killed in Texas after being trampled by a bull during an event, according to the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association.
Dylan Grant, 24, originally from Laramie, Wyoming, was participating in an Xtreme Bulls event at the Wharton County Youth Fair in Wharton, Texas when the incident occurred. He was reportedly thrown off his bull and then stepped on by the animal while on the ground, as per a statement from the PRCA.
Emergency services at the fair quickly came to Grant's aid and managed to stabilise him before he was airlifted to Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center in Houston, where he was later pronounced dead, local officials confirmed.
Wharton County Sheriff Shannon Srubar confirmed the incident to ABC News, stating: "Prayers are with Dylan Grant, his family and the rodeo community."
Throughout his career, Grant had competed in numerous rodeo events, amassing $15,000 in career earnings since starting in the sport, according to his bio on the PRCA. He obtained his PRCA permit in 2018 and bought his PRCA card on Feb. 14, 2024.
During his time competing on the University of Wyoming Rodeo Team, he won the Mountain States Circuit Finals Rodeo, reports the MirrorUS.
The University of Wyoming expressed their sorrow at the news of his death, stating: "We are deeply saddened at the news of his death and our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends. He was a true Wyoming Cowboy."
The Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA) expressed its condolences, saying: "The PRCA would like to send its thoughts and prayers to bull rider Dylan Grant's family, friends and the entire rodeo/bull riding community after Grant passed away after suffering injuries Thursday night during the Wharton County Youth Fair Xtreme Bulls event in Wharton, Texas. Grant was 24,".
