Gordon Ramsay's Edinburgh restaurant Street Burger has been voted his worst outlet by reviewers on TripAdvisor. Coming in with a score of just three out of five, the eatierie, which as the name implies specialises in brugers including a special Scottish-inspired addition they claim you won't find anywhere else, hasn't proved a hit with diners since it opened in December 2022.
"It was just an OK burger, cooked to order and table served - but way too pricey and not 'value for money' when you end at £25+ for a burger, fries and a bottled Coke," one reviewer who visited in March this year wrote. A family who also visited that month were equally unimpressed. "In hindsight, we should have read the review summary before walking the length of Princes Street to visit this outlet," they penned, "...We ordered a round of Peroni – so far the most expensive we've had in Edinburgh – along with our meals: two beef burgers and two chicken burgers. My burger was decent, though the fries were quite good. However, according to the two family members who ordered them, the chicken burgers were among the worst they've had in a long time – just a bland piece of chicken breast. My wife barely ate hers. The Google review stating that 'many diners find the burgers lacking in taste and portion size, leading to questions about the restaurant's value' is spot on. The bill included a 12.5% service charge, which was quickly reduced upon request," they said.
A couple who titled their review "would never go back" following their visit in March said: "Upon arrival we waiting 15 minutes at the door before being seated... we had ordered one plain smash burger and chips between us which was £18 (little pricey for the quality) on top of that there was an automatic 13% service charge added to the bill for what was nothing short of lacking service on the manager's behalf, the younger staff were lovely pleasant and eager to help while the manager was rude and just unpleasant. The burger arrived, half cold and completely dry, the chips were pleasant but nothing to obsessed over. The total bill came to just under £40 for a cold burger a half dead pint of Peroni and rude service, would definitely not be back."
A solo visitor in February shared their sentiment claiming they would not return. "I ordered... the idiot burger, chips and onion rings. The burger was dry as hell and nothing to do with the photo, couldn't even chew it, I ended throwing into the bin, chips were terrible and the onion rings were dripping oil. Unbelievable!
"Knowing that apparently Gordon Ramsay is one of the best chefs in the world my most sincere advice is that he should go back to learn how to cook and to employ staff that knows what they are doing. I will never again order or even visit this restaurant again, of course will not recommend it. They do better burgers at Burger King and much cheaper."
Another family who visited in February this year wrote: "Burger was cold, poor response when trying to get menu on the photo to download, 12.5% surcharge, toilets poor. They did knock off surcharge to be fair, would not go back."
While the negative reviews far outweight hte positive some people were far more complimentary about the food and dining experience.
"Visited a few times already. Food is always top notch and super tasty. Staff members are always helpful and the restaurant is clean. We’ll definitely be back soon!" one diner who ate there in March said.
Meanwhile someone who visited with friends in November 2024 commented: "Went for lunch and ended up having an incredible meal although a little spicy. Burger was delicious and excellent service from Denny. Keen to try out the other burgers, will be back next week."
The low ranking and poor reviews surrounding Gordan's Edinburgh venture are in sharp comparision to his Restaurant Gordon Ramsay in Chelsea. The three Michelin starred restaurant specialise in French cuisine and has overwhelmingly positive feedback from visitors.
