Cruise enthusiasts have shared savvy tips on packing to make sea voyages more comfortable and efficient. Taking to the popular cruising forum ‘Cruise Critic,’ a holidaymaker shared a golden tip for first-time cruisers.

A forum member sought advice for a 14-day Caribbean  cruise with Princess, stating: "I'm flying in the day before my 14-day cruise to the Caribbean. I have never cruised this long before. I have always packed carry-on only, but this doesn't seem possible for this trip. I will be on Princess. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated."

Replying to their fellow forum member, another Cruise Critic fan suggested that long trips of two weeks or more can be easily catered to by underpacking.

Though it sounds odd, they suggested there’s no need to pack several options of pool wear, excursion outfits and formal attire, even when embarking on a trip that exceeds 20 days.

Under the alias ‘Dock B’, they wrote: "Since you are on Princess, pack as you would for a seven-day cruise…at least that’s what we do when on a lengthy Princess cruise.”

The cruiser explained that Princess Cruises offers passenger laundromats.

According to the savvy holidaymaker, those keen to do laundry on board can easily incorporate it into their daily activities.

Laundry is best done in the evening when the boat is portside, as there are fewer people on board. The cruiser said: “We will get snacks from the buffet, take clothes to the washer, come back, and start one of the free movies to watch until it's time to move the clothes to the dryer.”

Others suggested relaxing on their balcony while the laundry is on.

There is usually a cost to wash and dry laundry on board, but fellow Cruise Critic members suggested passengers “use a medallion to make the purchase of supplies and/or the tokens needed to use the machines”.

Another CruiseCritic member disclosed that with efficient packing, almost a month's clothes could fit into just two carry-on bags.

The user, 'crystalspin', detailed their experience: "I did a 26-day TransAtlantic and Mediterranean (plus travel days) with two carry-ons and two knapsacks (for two people). I did all of the necessary ‘laundry’ with hand-wash in the sink, including one-time-only a pair of my husband's nylon trousers.

"If you are going to use the ship's laundry, pack for seven days, but send out your first load or bag on the fifth night or sixth morning. Then again on the 10th. This will give you ‘slack’ to get home."

Hand washing is a simple alternative for those hoping to avoid the laundry room. Swimwear, socks, and shirts can be easily cleaned in the cabin's sink with some warm water; make sure to bring your own washing detergent.
