Tom Daley returned to school to learn energy saving tips from primary school kids including 'stop the yap and turn off the tap'.

Donning a full uniform, the 30 year old retired Team GB diver picked up some new lingo from his classmates, including 'rizzler', 'skibidi' and 'sigma' - all signifying cool and charismatic.

After receiving compliments on his blazer and tie described as 'so slay' he sat down to discuss ways of conserving energy, such as not wasting water, only half turning on the heating and to 'hop and skip' to school.

He was later advised to 'stick to diving' while playing football during breaktime and reprimanded by the teacher for making a paper airplane.

The Olympic gold medalist has partnered with British Gas for its 'Get Set for Positive Energy' education programme with Team GB and ParalympicsGB - aiming to educate children about the significance of energy habits for a sustainable future.

It follows a survey of 2,000 parents of 5-17 year olds which revealed that a fifth admit sustainability habits in their home are driven by their kids, some as young as five.

The study also found that 43% believe their child is more aware of how eco-friendly their household is, with 58% admitting they only have 'some' sustainability habits and 70% confessing they still need to make improvements when it comes to being energy efficient.

Tom said: "It's been brilliant going back to school and learning from children on their energy saving tips in their own language. As the future generation, it's important they feel educated and inspired to adopt habits to create a more sustainable future for all."

The study revealed that 21% of parents believe their children are the ones keeping them on track with sustainable practices. They confessed their children regularly remind them to switch off lights when leaving a room and instruct them on proper recycling methods.

Parents also confessed to being reprimanded by their children for leaving taps running, wasting food, and forgetting to unplug chargers when not in use.

Positively, over a third of parents said they have learned something new about energy conservation from their children, with two-thirds attributing this newfound knowledge to schools, and 32% citing YouTube as the source.

An impressive 90% of parents appreciate learning how to improve their energy-saving habits from their knowledgeable children. However, 65% would find discussions about sustainability easier if the language used was more age-appropriate.

Meanwhile, 39% believe that energy-saving tips specifically designed for children or teenagers could help families become more eco-friendly.

James Corcoran, from British Gas, commented: "It's incredible to see young people leading the way in energy-saving habits. By working with Tom Daley and engaging kids to co-create advice in their own language, we're making sustainability a fun and relatable topic."

"Through the 'Get Set for Positive Energy' programme, we're not just sharing tips - we're trying to empower young people and their communities to build a greener, fairer future."
