Celebrity MasterChef star Kitty Scott-Claus has opened up about the emotional message they received from The Vivienne just weeks before their tragic death. Drag Race UK winner The Vivienne - otherwise known as James Lee Williams - died in early January at the age of 32. They won the inaugural UK version of the competition series when it launched on BBC Three in 2019 and had a cameo in the BBC's This Is Going To Hurt. In 2024, she played the role of the Wicked Witch of the West in a UK tour of 'The Wizard of Oz' and then reprised the role when the stage adaptation of the Judy Garland classic opened in the West End for a limited run.
Fellow drag queen and TV personality Kitty spoke exclusively with Express Online about running The London Marathon 2025 and raising money for Sahir House in honour of The Vivienne, who was its patron.
"We're trying to raise £50,000, which we're going to split four-way between Pancreatic Cancer UK, which is the official sponsor of the London Marathon, and Sahir House, which is an incredible charity based up in Liverpool, which my dear friend, the late Vivienne was a patron of. We've also chosen London Friend Antidote and Switchboard LGBT+ Helpline," they explained.
Speaking about working with Vivienne, Kitty recalled, "We worked together a couple of times. It really is a sisterhood—the Drag Race scene in the UK. So no matter what it was, you can guarantee Viv was always there cheering you on, messaging you, and just being the most lovely, kind, supportive individual. She was just an absolute superstar and so, so sorely missed."
Speaking about the last time she spoke to her, Kitty said, "The last time I spoke to her, I just actually put my fitness pictures up [on Instagram]. And she sent me the loveliest message just going, 'You've done it, well done, I'm so proud of you. You look amazing.' I look back now and I'm like, 'Oh my God.' It just shows who she was as a person like she's just an absolute rock star."
In addition to the London Marathon, Kitty will run the London Landmarks Half Marathon on Sunday, April 6th. The event will see 20,000 runners take on the stunning 13.1-mile route through the heart of London, passing 16 of the capital’s iconic landmarks.
