Whilst UK fans might have to hold on a bit longer, Channel 4 and Prime Video are confirmed as the British homes for the series finale.

Even before the show hits the screens, it seems many fans are convinced they've pieced together the ending.

Fuelled by Margaret Atwood's follow-up novel, The Testaments, which snagged the Booker Prize in 2019 in a joint win with Bernardine Evaristo's Girl, Woman, Other, speculation is rife amongst the audience, reports the Mirror US.

Discussions about the final season's plot, particularly how it ties into The Testaments, are heating up on various platforms.

One observant fan speculated on social media, posting: "'I am TRYING to give you a way out! ! !' As someone who has read "The Testaments," I know exactly where that conversation is leading to."

Emotions are running high, as another states under the YouTube trailer: "NOT READY FOR THE END."

Echoing the sentiment of dread and anticipation, another added: "I hope we get to see Commander Judd as the final villain. I've read The Testaments and he's a complete monster."

Margaret Atwood's sequel to The Handmaid's Tale, The Testaments, offers devotees of the dystopian saga some closure, although the TV adaptation may not strictly adhere to the events of the book.

Atwood discussed her involvement with the television series, revealing to Variety her partnership with the production team: "I read the scripts; I make notes on them.

"I have influence but no actual power. But luckily we're in accord most of the time."

Shedding light on her decision to pen The Testaments, set 15 years post-Handmaid's Tale, Atwood detailed: "Although I could not continue with the story of Offred, I could continue with three other people concerned in these events and tell the story of the beginning of the end, because we know from The Handmaid's Tale that Gilead vanishes."
