Police have released the identity of an 81-year-old woman who was fatally struck by a car in a picturesque Yorkshire village.
Sheena McKerrell was walking through Haworth when she was struck by a car on Sunday. The tragic incident occurred around 5:35pm at the junction of Ivy Bank Lane and Bridgehouse Lane, with bystanders rushing to her aid.
Emergency services swarmed to the scene, shutting down the road and creating a police cordon. Despite hours of efforts to save her, McKerrell, from eight miles away in Hebden Bridge, was pronounced dead at the scene.
A 23-year-old man was arrested by West Yorkshire Police at the junction on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. He was initially held in police custody before being released on bail, Monday (April 7).
Speaking to the Telegraph and Argus, local Cllr Rebecca Poulsen expressed deep condolences, stating: "My first thoughts are with the lady who tragically passed and her family and friends.
"I'd like to pass on my thanks to the emergency services and residents who helped give emergency aid. It must have been quite distressing for them.
"The people who were present were shocked and upset."
