Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has confirmed the presence of his troops in the Belgorod region of southern Russia.
Speaking on Monday evening, he said: "We continue active operations in the enemy's border areas and this is absolutely justified. The war must return to where it came from."
While there have been reports of fighting in the Belgorod region previously, this is the first time Zelensky has confirmed that his troops are active there - although there are suggestions that he referred to it last week.
This comes after Ukraine launched a surprise incursion into the Kursk region of Russia in August 2024.
Ukrainian forces remain in the region, but they are slowly being pushed back by the Russians.
