Martin Frizell announced in November he was leaving the programme after a decade as This Morning's editor to care for his wife Fiona Phillips, who is living with Alzheimer's. The former ITV boss has since shared, "I'm going back to broadcasting" in a new announcement. The 66-year-old took to his Instagram Stories as he is set to launch a new weekly podcast, This Much Is True Crime.
Martin will be joined Britain's leading criminologist Professor David Wilson as they explore some of the biggest crimes ever committed. Taking to the picture-sharing site the former ITV boss confirmed the podcast is coming soon but did not provide an official release date.
In view of his 9,468 followers, he penned: "Takes a prolific serial killer to knock Adolescence off the No1 Netflix spot.
"Gone Girls profiles America’s modern day Jack the Ripper and his body count may not be over yet! Coming soon is This Much is True Crime, a new weekly podcast with Britains leading criminologist (and serial killer expert) Prof David Wilson and me (Fred West and many other crime reports).
"If it’s in the headlines or the ratings, we’re talking about it. We start with Gone Girls. Not just a whodunnit but a whydunnit?"
The news comes after Martin departed This Morning earlier this year, to spend more time - and care for - his wife, former GMTV presenter Fiona Phillips who was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 2022.
In a statement announcing his departure, he said: "Next year I'm expecting my family priorities to change so I need to free up time for them.
“I love my team at ITV and will miss them and the thrill of live telly but it's an always on, 24 hours a day, seven days a week commitment and I won't be able to do both."
From March 3 Vivek Sharma took over Martin's This Morning role.
Vivek has been associate editor on the channel's flagship daytime show for the last 15 months.
