You might have spotted the drop-waist trend over the last year, having become popular in the summer of 2024. This flattering silhouette, found on skirts and dresses, can elongate the frame and even create a slimming effect. And it seems the style isn’t going anywhere in 2025.  Cat Deeley has shown how to easily wear the style as part of an everyday look she wore while presenting This Morning a few weeks ago. The TV presenter wore a sleeveless denim midi dress with a drop-waist line, paired with a red neck scarf, and I think it’s perfect for spring.

Plus, you don’t have to look far to steal her look as the dress is from the high street. Though it’s from COS, you can also buy it from H&M (and it’s currently in stock in all sizes). 

The indigo-hued denim is perfect for transitional dressing and versatile enough to dress up or down. The sleeveless design makes it great for warmer days, but it can easily be paired with a jumper, cardigan, or jacket when there is a chill in the air. However, it’s the flattering silhouette that’s caught my attention.

While the top of the dress is more fitted, with a v-neck that sits high on the collarbone, the drop-waist gives way to a flared skirt. The dress is a bit of an investment, priced at £135, but its versatility means it’s an elevated basic you can wear throughout the spring and summer. 

Available in sizes four to 16, the range isn’t the greatest, though all sizes are currently in stock. 

If Cat’s look has influenced you, but you're after a slightly different shape or silhouette, plenty of other high-street retailers have jumpers on the denim dress trend. 

Free People’s Soraya Denim Midi Dress has a similar dropped waistline, though with a straight neckline and plunging open back, making it a great choice for summer. It’s also available in a choice of colours, with both a lighter and darker rinse. The cut of the dress is more slouchy than Cat’s COS dress, which is great if you prefer to avoid form-fitting items. 

The dress retails for £158, though shoppers have warned that it runs big. One previous customer wrote: "This could have been cute but huge on me and I order[ed] a small. I think if the material wasn’t so stiff…and the design so wide. The material is good quality though." [SIC]

Alternatively, if you like the look of a denim dress but aren’t keen on a drop-waist, Seasalt Cornwall’s Audrey Pinafore Dress could be a good fit. The midi dress has a similar sleeveless design to the COS dress but with a deeper V-neckline. It can be worn on its own or layered with a T-shirt for a more traditional pinafore look. 

The dress, which retails for £85.95, comes in sizes eight through 20, and a regular and a petite option is available. 

Along with the indigo-washed denim, the dress comes in forest green fabric, though many sizes are already starting to sell out. The green version is also currently on sale for £55.95.
