The Handmaid's Tale star Elisabeth Moss described her short-lived marriage to fellow actor, comedian and musician Fred Armisen as "extremely traumatic and awful and horrible". The 42-year-old, who recently gave birth to her first child, met the Saturday Night Live star when her Mad Men co-star Jon Hamm was hosting the show in October 2008. He roped her in for a Mad Men skit and the pair met. They were engaged by January 2009 and married on October 25, 2009 in Long Island City on the anniversary of the day they first met

They separated in June 2010, and Elisabeth filed for divorce citing “irreconcilable differences” in September 2010, which was finalised on May 13, 2011. Reflecting on the whirlwind romance she said: “It was extremely traumatic and awful and horrible. At the same time, it turned out for the best. I’m glad that I’m not there. I’m glad that it didn’t happen when I was 50. I’m glad I didn’t have kids. And I got that out of the way. Hopefully. Like, that’s probably not going to happen again,” she told the LA Times in 2014.

This wasn't the first time she had opened up about the failure of the union. In a 2012 interview with Page Six she said: “It’s so hard to talk about.

“One of the greatest things I heard someone say about him is, ‘He’s so great at doing impersonations. But the greatest impersonation he does is that of a normal person.’

"To me, that sums it up... And I think that’s... that’s it. I’ve never told anyone that. And I don’t want to waste any more of my life talking about it,” the Golden Globe winner stated.

For his part Armisen, 58, has acknowledged he was the problem in the relationship.

“I think I was a terrible husband. I think I’m a terrible boyfriend,” he told shock jock Howard Stern on his show in January 2013 following Moss' remarks.

“I want it all – fast. I want to be married... the amount of girls I’ve lived with right away... and then somewhere around a year, two years, I get freaked out... I feel bad for everyone I’ve gone out with,” he said.

Moss went on to have her first child last year although she has kept the identity of the child's father private.

However she didn't hold back on expressing her joy about becoming a mother. The acclaimed actress said she felt "so fortunate" to have her little one accompany her on set as she filmed The Handmaid's Tale season 6.
