Our Yorkshire Farm and now Our Farm Next Door star Amanda Owen has been plunged into darkness at her Yorkshire Dales home this week after being forced to battle a power cut.
The mum of nine shared an update to her 530,000 Instagram followers showing two of their children gathered around the fire to warm up after losing all electricity to their home on Ravenseat. Amanda had been forced to light the fire for warmth and turn to candles to light their home, underlining the perils of living in a remote rural farm setting. Amanda Owen posted: “No power. No problem,” and posted a snap of some of her youngest children gathered in front of the roaring fireplace at their Ravenseat farm, along with the hashtags #candlelight and #fire.
Amanda’s followers were thrilled to see another glimpse of her family up at the farm, especially as the upcoming new series of the Owen clan’s show has still yet to air.
@snipssnaps_ said: “Beautiful! Takes me right back to my childhood, being raised by my grandparents in their Cambridgeshire cottage with two ranges and no modern conveniences. I wouldn’t change a thing about it, it was the best!”
@debberri said: “As a child living in the country power cuts was one of my favourite things.”
@grate.ful64 said: “Hope you have power back on now. Nice fire and nice children.”
Others raised that they had been hit with power cuts too, @peacefulnaturesoul said; “Awesome. We are the same at our house even though we are in Richmond. Touch wood we don’t get many power cuts but it’s a nice feeling to be prepared.”
It’s not the first time Amanda and family have been left in the dark. In December 2022, Amanda was forced to turn to candlelight to get by, with the power cut also knocking out internet and phone signal.
She said at the time: "No electric on the farm… No mobile signal neither so incommunicado until power restored."
Amanda has more recently continued to keep her army of followers updated on life on Ravenseat, as fans eagerly wait for the new series of Our Farm Next Door.
Amanda had starred in five series of Our Yorkshire Farm on Channel 5 along with ex-husband Clive Owen and their nine children. After their separation, Channel 5 cancelled Our Yorkshire Farm before Channel 4 announced a new show starring the whole family, Our Farm Next Door: Amanda, Clive and Kids.
The first season was broadcast in 2024, with six more episodes on the way this year - although no release date for the 2025 series has yet been confirmed.
