In his memoir Spare, Prince Harry recounts a poignant moment following Prince Philip's funeral on April 17, 2021, where King Charles emotively spoke to him and his brother Prince William. According to Harry, during a private meeting at Windsor Castle, Charles stood between his sons, looked at their flushed faces, and said, "Please, boys. Don't make my final years a misery."
During Prince Philip's funeral, which took place following the late Due of Edinburgh's death on April 9, 2021, just days before his 100th birthday, William and Harry walked side-by-side during the coffin procession in what appeared to be an attempt to put on a united front, and Harry detailed the anguished meeting with his father and brother shortly after the event. Prince Harry also recounts in Spare what he claims was a physical attack by his brother, William, as their relationship fell apart over the younger prince’s relationship to Meghan Markle. Describing a confrontation at his London home in 2019, Harry claims William called Meghan "difficult", "rude" and "abrasive".
After the Duke and Duchess of Sussex married on May 19, 2018, Harry and Meghan began life as working royals but quickly drifted apart from the family and eventually embarked on a largely separate existence, moving to Canada first and then Montecito, California.
In a clip from the ITV interview, while promoting Spare, Harry said: "I would like to get my father back, I would like to have my brother back."
After quitting royal duties, the royal duo also released a six-part documentary series on the streaming platform Netflix, titled 'Harry & Meghan' which included further accusations and anecdotes that made worldwide headlines. According to BARB, it was the most-watched premiere for a Netflix show in 2022 in the United Kingdom.
On the streaming platform, the show was detailed: "From their courtship to their exit from royal life, Harry and Meghan share their complex journey in their own words in this documentary series."
Just hours after King Charles announced his cancer diagnosis to the world last year, Prince Harry rushed to catch a flight to the UK to see the monarch, and he drove straight to Clarence House upon arrival in the UK.
It was reported the King had delayed his own journey to Sandringham to see his younger son in London.
His wife, Meghan Markle, remained at the couple's home in Montecito, California with their children, Prince Archie, and Princess Lilibet.
The short reunion was the first meaningful time the two had spent together since the death of the late Queen Elizabeth II in September 2022. Although Harry attended Charles's Coronation in May, the two are thought to have had only limited contact since then amid the fallout around the Duke's controversial memoir.
