King Charles and Queen Camilla will shortly begin their third day full of engagements in Italy as they mark their 20th wedding anniversary in a special way today. The King and Queen began their four-day state visit in the Italian capital of Rome with a welcome ceremony on Tuesday full of pomp and pageantry and a spectacular fly-past hosted by President Sergio Mattarella and ended it among the tourists who flock to the historical amphitheatre of the Colosseum.
Today, they will carry out a series of engagements, with Charles becoming the first British monarch to address both houses of Italy's parliament - the chamber of deputies and the senate of the republic. Before delivering his speech to the politicians, the King will have an audience with Italy's prime minister Giorgia Meloni, the country's first female premier who took up office in October 2022 at the head of a coalition of right-wing populist parties. Later tonight, the King and Queen will be guests of honour at a state banquet in Rome and are expected to be joined by leading figures from Italian life.
