Prince Harry is in the UK this week for the first time in over six months as he continues his legal battle against the Home Office to appeal the decision made by the Executive Committee for the Protection of Royalty and Public Figures (Ravec) in February 2020. The decision to give the Duke, 40, a different degree of taxpayer-funded protection when in the country was made after Harry and his wife Meghan Markle, 43, decided to step back from royal duty and relocate overseas.
While Harry has been in court in London this week, royal fans have been quick to point out that his appearance in the UK comes at the same time as King Charles’ state visit to Italy. Harry’s last day in court is expected to be today (Wednesday).
Harry’s appearance in court this week has led to some criticism towards the Duke of Sussex on X, formerly known as Twitter, as royal fans believe the duke could be overshadowing the monarch and Queen Camilla in Rome. However, many fans of Harry have also jumped to his defence on the issue.
One person wrote on X: “As the King laid on a soft power masterclass, the gulf with Prince Harry could not be clearer. While the monarch did his duty in Italy, the Duke of Sussex was in court as his wife launched a new podcast!”
A second said: “He (Harry) didn’t have to be there. He hasn’t in previous court dates.”
Other people were quick to defend the duke, arguing that he has no control over court dates.
One person wrote: “I am no fan of Prince Harry, but the court set the date according to the court roll. He has no say in it.”
Another said: “Court dates are announced months before, if not days. So the visit isn't unexpected.”
Prince Harry’s last day in court is expected to be today. It is likely he will have flown home to his Montecito mansion before the King and Queen Camilla return to the UK from Italy.
