This scenic beach  has a unique feel and it keeps drawing tourists to its sands. Dungeness, located in Kent, is a striking coastal area, known for its otherworldly landscape, featuring vast shingle beaches and a nuclear power station. It offers a serene escape from the bustle of city life, with its desolate beauty and wild, open space perfect for nature lovers. 

Dungeness was named by TimeOut as one of the best seaside towns in the UK which noted its "apocalyptic" feel. It is also home to a nature reserve which hosts a variety of bird species, making it a popular spot for birdwatchers. Visitors can explore the historic Dungeness Lighthouse, which offers stunning panoramic views of the coast. 

The area also boasts some quirky attractions, including the famous “shack” of artist Derek Jarman, which has become a symbol of the area’s charm. 

One person who visited the beach took to Tripadvisor to write: “The tail end of England - desolate, windswept, dominated by the looming concrete bulk of Dungeness power station. An immense shingle beach studded with determined shrubs and grasses. 

“Some ramshackle fishermans’ cottages, some remaindered lighthouses. It’s remote, bleak, empty. I visited on a rainy day under a low leaden sky, too wet to walk more than a few metres from my car - and I absolutely loved it!”

While you’re there, you should also visit the lighthouse which is a great spot to explore.

A visitor wrote on Tripadvisor: “Amazing views and if you can't climb all the steps there are stops along the way.

“Take time to read about the lighthouse as it has an amazing history, take a camera and wear sensible comfy shoes as it is a long way up!”

Dungeness is just a short drive away from Camber Sands so if you’re hoping to make a stop off at another destination too, this would be a perfect place to add onto your trip.

It is located less than 20 minutes away by car and is home to pretty beaches and a cosy seaside town feel.
