Accounted as one of the fastest-growing economies in the world, Africa is home to a large number of billionaires. The latest report by Forbes suggested that Africa’s 22 billionaires saw their wealth rising to a total of $105 billion (£81.8 bn), up from $82.4 (£64.23bn) billion in 2024 - with two more people joining the billionaire list in the meantime.
With the ongoing political unrest in certain areas of the continent and challenging consumer market, Africa's economy is still standing tall. The 10 richest people in Africa have a combined worth of $87.6 billion (£68.4 billion), and it's projected to rise in the coming years. Aliko Dangote of Nigeria tops the list of the richest men in Africa, with a net worth of $23.9 billion (£18.64 bn), up from $13.9 billion (£10.84 billion) a year ago.
He has remained on the top for 14th year in a row. Mr Dangote is the founder and chairman of Dangote Cement, the continent's largest cement producer. He broke his government’s oil monopoly by building the largest petroleum refinery in Africa
Mr Dangote told Forbes in February: “This is a very, very big relief". He believes that his latest project is “a pivotal step in ensuring that Africa has the capacity to refine its own crude oil, thereby creating wealth and prosperity for its vast population.”
The second on the list is South African luxury goods tycoon Johann Rupert. His wealth rose 39% to $14 billion (£10.92 billion).
