The Farrell family is in mourning following the death of Eamon Farrell, father of celebrated actor Colin Farrell. The former Shamrock Rovers footballer passed away after a prolonged illness at Beaumont Hospital, comforted by his loving family.
Eamon Farrell's heartfelt obituary details: "Passed peacefully, after a long illness bravely borne, in the loving care of his family and the excellent staff of the Whitworth Ward, Beaumont Hospital. Beloved husband of Eileen, loving father of Eamon, Catherine, Claudine and Colin and beloved brother of the late Tommy, Maureen and Sean."
It continues: "Sadly missed by Rita, step-children William, Keith, Sandra, Aidan, Deborah, Karl, Ciaran and Gary, grandchildren James, Ellen, Henry, Stella and Oscar, in-laws and partners, nieces, nephews, relatives, neighbours and friends."
Details about Eamon Farrell's final farewell include: "Reposing at his home in Glasnevin on Friday evening, April 11th, from 6pm to 8pm for family and friends. Funeral Mass on Saturday morning, April 12th, at 10am at the Church of Our Lady of Victories, Ballymun Road, followed by cremation at Glasnevin Crematorium at 12.20pm approximately."
In a touching gesture, Shamrock Rovers honoured their past player with an online post stating: "The death has occurred of former Rovers player Eamon Farrell.", reports Dublin Live.
"Eamon joined Rovers in 1960 at 18 years of age from the famous schoolboy nursery club Home Farm. A half back who was a minor and schoolboy Ireland international, Eamonn played alongside his older brother Tommy during his time at Milltown.
"Both were on the team that beat Shelbourne in the FAI Cup final in 1962 played in front of an attendance of 32,000. Ar dheis De go raibh a anam."
