Fires broke out in several districts of Kyiv after a wave of Russian drones targeted the Ukrainian capital overnight, triggering massive explosions and a two-hour air alert. According to Ukraine’s Emergency Service, 30 enemy drones entered the city’s airspace during the night, with 16 intercepted by air defences.

The remaining drones either crashed or left the area. Air raid sirens began at 11.34pm on April 9 and continued until 1.37am, followed by a separate ballistic missile threat just after 7am. In the Holosiivskyi district, a warehouse caught fire after being struck by debris from a downed UAV.

Firefighters managed to extinguish the blaze quickly, and no casualties were reported in that area.

Meanwhile, in the Darnytskyi district on the eastern bank of the Dnipro River, a private home was destroyed in the attack.

Nearby buildings and cars were also damaged by flying debris. Two women were injured but did not require hospital treatment.

Dramatic images released after the attack showed emergency crews battling flames and surveying the damage as daylight broke over the capital.

The incident marks the latest in a series of overnight Russian strikes aimed at pressuring Kyiv’s defences and testing its resilience.

Authorities praised first responders for their swift reaction.

The Emergency Service said in a statement: “We thank the rescuers, medics, and employees of all services who are eliminating the consequences of enemy attacks and helping the people of Kyiv. Thank you to our soldiers for protecting the capital!”

Russian drone and missile strikes have intensified in recent weeks, with Ukrainian officials warning of a renewed campaign targeting critical infrastructure and urban centres.
