A royal commentator has suggested that despite Prince Harry's previous antics against the Royal Family and the ongoing feud that had caused, it "might soon be time to welcome" him back into the fold. The Duke of Sussex has been estranged from the Firm ever since his bombshell exit five years ago when he, alongside his wife, Meghan Markle, stepped down as senior working royal and moved to the US.

The Sussexes have now settled in Montecito, California, where they've built a new life for themselves and their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. But their explosive claims against the royals ever since their departure have created an "ever-deepening" rift between the two camps with their relationship being seen by many as rather "frosty".

Harry notably didn't meet with his father when he came to the UK this week as the monarch headed to Italy for his four-day State Visit while Harry attended an appeal regarding his security arrangements in London.

While he isn't believed to have seen his father in person since February 2024, a royal commentator has suggested that it might be time for "Harry's War" to come to an end.

The Telegraph's Alan Cochrane said that the duke had "behaved badly - very badly even" but asked whether there could "even the slightest chance of [King Charles] cutting him [Prince Harry] some slack and".

He wrote: "Nobody else is really to blame for the situation in which he finds himself [Harry] – separated from a loving father who would still welcome him back into the fold, even if his elder brother is highly unlikely to feel the same way."

Mr Cochrane added: "Who knows? – we might see the beginning of the end of Harry’s War."

The commentator said that a potential reconciliation will be "difficult" as "such intense family reconciliations always are" but suggested there could be light at the end of the tunnel.

But he noted on Harry's latest statement during his hearing in London and said it sparked hope for a possible reconciliation path.

Harry is challenging the dismissal of his High Court claim against the Home Office over the decision of the Executive Committee for the Protection of Royalty and Public Figures (Ravec) that he should receive a different degree of taxpayer-funded protection when in the country.

Last year, High Court judge Sir Peter Lane ruled that Ravec's decision, taken in early 2020 after the Duke and Duchess of Sussex quit as senior working royals, was not irrational or procedurally unfair but Harry has appealed.

The duke said in a statement during his two-day hearing: "The UK is my home. The UK is central to the heritage of my children and a place I want them to feel at home as much as where they live at the moment in the US. That cannot happen if it’s not possible to keep them safe when they are on UK soil."

Now Mr Cochrane said: "Any number are prepared to blame Meghan [Markle] for much of the family’s ills. However, nobody should be in any doubt about Harry’s devotion to her."

He added: "Whatever the Appeal Court’s verdict in this case, angry words and bad behaviour will not be easily forgotten. But as Churchill insisted, let the victors be magnanimous.

"It is past time for a rapprochement in the House of Windsor. For that to happen, Harry must show he wants to be part of it."
