Alan Titchmarsh graced the This Morning set on Thursday (10 April) to chat with hosts Dermot O'Leary and Sian Welby about his exciting new endeavour.
The beloved television personality, famed for programmes like Love Your Weekend with Alan Titchmarsh, is branching out from traditional TV to launch his own YouTube channel, Gardening with Alan Titchmarsh.
With the introduction of fresh Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok profiles, Alan humorously claimed he's turning into an "influencer" aiming to spread his gardening expertise to a broader audience.
"I'm adding YouTube to my portfolio. A lot of people don't watch gardening and things on the telly, or they can't, or the time is not right. Youtube is such a thing now, get it when you want it," he explained to Sian and Dermot.
He continued: "We started Gardening with Alan Titchmarsh on Friday, and we got 16,000 subscribers already. So, we're really quite chuffed about it.
"It's little films on how to do things like sowing seeds. We've done one on planting summer flowering bulbs in pots, it's on about 70,000 hits! It's simple gardening for people who are scared about it."
Dermot and Sian were delighted with Alan's update, praising the concept of having such an expert available on platforms like YouTube, reports Wales Online.
Sian even dubbed him a "cool grandpa" as he shared that he hadn't yet informed his grandchildren about his YouTube venture but was eager to see their reaction to their grandad being an online sensation.
Alan's channel, which launched on Friday, 4 April, is designed to "celebrate Alan's horticultural legacy while providing a platform for a wealth of tips and ideas."
As reported by Televisual, weekly episodes will be released on YouTube. These will include a variety of tutorials, tips, and masterclasses, all presented by Alan himself.
Upon officially unveiling his new project, the gardening guru stated: "I'd never have guessed that I would become a 75-year-old influencer and be hosting on the world's biggest streaming platform. I've been gardening for more than 60 years, and this is the perfect place to pass on that knowledge to an international audience of all ages.
"YouTube has become the go to platform for people wanting to learn new skills so where better for me to inspire new gardeners and help experienced gardeners hone their skills."
This Morning airs on ITV1 on weekdays from 10am
