Alex Zane has revealed he is one of an elite group of people who receives Tom Cruise's famous Bundt cake every Christmas and admits the thoughts of getting removed from the exclusive list is "truly terrifying." Speaking exclusively to Express.co.uk in advance of the first episode of his Savoy Originals podcast, which lands on Friday April 11, the DJ was stunned to learn that Brooke Shields confessed she was taken off the Hollywood megastar's list of recipients.
"The fact that someone has been taken off (the list), it is truly terrifying. It makes Christmas. If Christmas wasn't already stressful enough, the idea that one Christmas the cake might not arrive will be very soul-crushing." Alex is as bemused as anyone as to how he got added to the list of people who receive the decadent white chocolate-coconut Bundt cake from Doan's Bakery. Other recipients include Kirsten Dunst, Angela Bassett, Cary Elwes and Graham Norton.
"I've just had the pleasure of interviewing Tom so many times over the years for the release of whatever he's in and he's just very loyal person.
"I'm not saying loyalty is in short supply in the industry, because it's not," he insisted.
"But there is no obligation for him to request me to host his premieres in Leicester Square, which a lot of film stars don't do, they leave it to the studio.
"But when Tom comes into town he requests me to do his interviews and host his premieres, which is just a lovely thing considering the first premire of his that I (was at) I wasn't hosting," he said.
"When I was a student in London, there was the Vanilla Sky premiere in Leicester Square. I'd never seen a premiere before in Leicester Square, so I sort of squeezed my way to the front just as Tom Cruise was walking past.
"I shook his hand and I ran back to the student halls. I was like: 'You are never going to guess what's happened to me. I shook Tom Cruise's hand at a premiere in Leicester Square'. And to go from there to now, getting cake from him every year is, is kind of a crazy journey for me," he recalled.
Admitting he would love to have Tom as a guest on season two of the Savoy Originals podcast for now listeners can look forward to chats with the likes of global culinary icon Gordon Ramsay to legendary athlete Dame Kelly Holmes.
Other guests confirmed to date also include actor Rob Brydon, singer Frankie Bridge, model Daisy Lowe, actor Daniel Mays, West End performer Layton Williams and comedian Nick Mohammed - all of whom have a connection to the iconic London hotel.
The Savoy Originals podcast is avilable from all usual podcast outlets from Friday April 11th and weekly after that.
