A Reddit user has admitted a letter left by their neighbour left them utterly baffled as a result of the handwriting, prompting others to attempt to decipher the calligraphy.
Sharing a snap of it in the Cursive subreddit, they explained: "Neighbour left me this letter. I can’t understand what’s it’s saying. The only part I could understand was her phone number. Which I blocked off in the red."
The post prompted several theories as to what it might say - as well as ideas as to why the text is so difficult to read. The most popular response, was a response that read: "Please neighbors I have a new compression vertebrae fracture."
It continued: "I only leave the gate open (propped open) when expecting food or Amazon (heating pads or xx xx xx) Sorry for the inconvenience. I hope it will be OK. At the top: And hard for me to walk and bend."
Another Reddit user suggested: "Looks like her name is Nora? I would call and try to help her if you are able to. Maybe rewrite the note for others if there are more neighbors?"
A third Reddit user added: "Maybe give them a call and ask? They seem very old. I have such compassion and love for our elders." A fourth claimed: "Looks like an old lady with maybe Parkinsons with the shaky writing. She sounds nice. She is just asking for some help."
They continued: "She just can't get packages from the gate (probably too old and frail) so she props the gate open when expecting food and other deliveries. Be a good neighbour. See if you can carry things or get her things. And don't shut the gate when she leaves it open for a while."
Whilst a fifth person urged: "Oh please please bring something for this neighbour… just a tray of cookies or a hot meal. My heart hurts. I work in home health and it would mean so much to them if you could bring them something. Old people are hated too much in our society when they really actually love the younger generations. They love when younger people are respectful and want to listen to their story."
Amongst the hundreds of replies, others asked for the original poster to provide an update to the tale.
One wrote: "Can you update us and let us know that your neighbor is getting some help? It’s perfectly okay if you aren’t able to but if you could DM those of us willing to help if you aren’t able, I would be so appreciative."
