I recently went on a pretty countryside escape with a few friends and it was super relaxing, but one thing stood out to me - the pub where we were staying was virtually empty. Last autumn, four friends and I decided that we wanted a countryside getaway from the bustle of London. Sometimes that respite is necessary. So after some searching, we found an Airbnb property that looked like it would do the trick, a little log cabin in the village of Lidgate, Suffolk that slept five poeple and had all of the appliances we needed. 

Located at the back of a local countryside pub were two eco-friendly cabins. The Lidgate Star is a pub that dates back to the 16th century. Alex and the team were warm and friendly and even lent us kitchen utensils that we needed for the feast we were making in our cabin. Arriving on a Friday evening after work and leaving on a Sunday morning, the two nights were a nice escape frm city life full of fresh air and beautiful nature with the added luck of plenty of sunshine. 

So, what is there to actually do? Well, night number one consisted of a trip to the pub and a few card games, a relaxed evening that was welcome after traveling after work.

Waking up to sunshine on the Saturday, we were ready to get out and about and see the area. Make sure you have good walking shoes with you because you might be out for quite a while. 

A stunning walk down country roads, through rolling green hills and quaint forested areas is exactly what I picture when I imagine an English countryside getaway. All in all, we walked for about three hours, taking in the scenery, enjoying the sunshine and passing friendly locals. 

Upon returning to the cabin, where we had made sure to order a Sainsbury's delivery, it was time to make dinner. Enjoying a nice homemade meal in the cabin was nice and wholesome, something different from a basic hotel stay. 

Saturday night at the pub, located just a few steps away, was a quiet one, because we were the only people there. In a way, that was welcome, because there was never a wait at the bar and we got to chat to the staff a bit. 

But if you are looking for a lively pub atmosphere, this place isn't for you. When I say a quiet country escape, I really mean quiet. The pub normally serves pizzas but they were not available when we visited, so we were glad that we had made plenty of food in the cabin. 

There are a few games to play to entertain yourself in the pub and there are quite a few drinks available including local brews, something I like to try when I visit somewhere I have never been before. 

The cabin came with a little decking at the front. Meanwhile, inside consisted of two bathrooms, a small kitchenette, a double bedroom, a twin room and a sofa bed for the fifth person. It is located beside just one other cabin. 

The highlight, we thought, was the zip line located in the field beside us. We were like five children having a great time. If you are looking for an escape to the country, somewhere quiet and peaceful, then Lidgate is a definitely an option to consider.
