Queen Elizabeth II was reportedly delighted with how the wedding of Prince William and Princess Kate went. The couple, who met at university in 2001, tied the knot at Westminster Abbey on April 29, 2011.
While she was not present at King Charles's wedding ceremony to Queen Camilla in 2005, the late Queen - who passed away in September 2022 - was front and centre at her grandson and granddaughter-in-law's nuptials. The late Queen is said to have been "practically skipping" as she attended their high-profile wedding day. According to one lip reader who spoke to CBS, the late Queen wholeheartedly turned to Prince Philip - who died aged 99 in 2021 - and said after the event at the London abbey: "It was excellent".
As she arrived at Westminster Abbey, Princess Kate thrilled adoring crowds in her £250,000 Alexander McQueen gown - which included a lace bodice hand-stitched by seamstresses from the Royal School of Needlework.
The couple wed in front of 2,000 guests and a global TV audience of over 36 million people, with the ceremony performed by the then Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr Rowan Williams.
In an extract from his 2022 book The Queen, author Andrew Morton wrote that the late monarch felt the big day was an important milestone for the monarchy following difficult years where three of her four children's marriages failed.
Prince Edward, who tied the knot to Duchess Sophie in 1999, is the only one of the late Queen's children who didn't divorce.
Mr Morton wrote: "The Queen was positively playful on the day of her grandson's nuptials, "practically skipping" according to one observer, absolutely thrilled at the way the public had reacted to the royal newlyweds.
"She had a sense that the future of the Royal Family, her family, was now secure. The monarchy was once again held in admiration and affection by the masses."
The couple will be celebrating their 14th wedding anniversary at the end of April, just weeks after the King and Queen's 20th wedding anniversary. Kate and William now reside at Adelaide Cottage in Windsor with their children - Prince George, 11, Princess Charlotte, 9, Prince Louis, who will turn seven later this month.
