The Good Life and Strictly Come Dancing star Felicity Kendall's son is an acclaimed artist in his own right and has twice been nominated for an Academy Award. Iconic actress Felicity, 78, shares her oldest son Charley Henley, 51, with her first husband, actor Drewe Henley, who she was married to from 1968 until 1979. While Charley inherited his parents creative streak half brother Jacob, 37, whose father is Felicity's second husband Michael Rudman, whom she married in 1983 and divorced in 1990, hasn't joined the family business and instead works as a barrister.
Charley prefers to be the other side of the camera to his parents and has forged a career as a visual effects supervisor, working on some of the biggest movies of recent years. He was nominated at the 85th Academy Awards in 2013 for his work on Ridley Scott's sci-fi epic Prometheus, in the Best Visual Effects category. He shared his nomination with colleagues Martin Hill, Richard Stammers and Trevor Wood.
He was also nominated in the same category at the 96th Academy Awards last year in 2024 for his work on the film Napoleon, which was again a Ridley Scott production.
Charley, who says he would love to work on a western, spoke about his association with the director following the release of Napoleon. "It was joyous to work with Ridley Scott again.
"From studying his beautiful storyboards to sitting with him as he grades the film in DI, the journey is always inspiring. You want to go big? He makes you go one bigger," he told Art of VFX website.
Other blockbusters Charley has lent his touch to include Gladiator (2000), Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (2001), X-Men: The Last Stand (2006), Total Recall (2012) and Disney's live action version of Cinderella (2015).
Felicity shot to huge fame playing Barbara Good who was supportive of husband Tom's (played by Richard Briers) self sufficiency ambitions despite having no say in the inital decision in the BBC sitcom The Good Life.
Whent he show ended she went on to star in shows like Rosemary and Thyme Honey for Tea, and made guest appearances in series such as Pennyworth and Doctor Who.
Her stage career blossomed in the 1980s and 1990s thanks to her association with Tom Stoppard, whom she also dated for seven years. She starred in many of his plays, including On the Razzle (1981), The Real Thing (1982), Hapgood (1988), and Arcadia (1993).
In 1995 she was appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in the New Year Honours for services to drama. In 2010 she joined Strictly Come Dancing where she was paired with professional dancer Vincent Simone but they were eliminated in week eight.
