Parts of the UK could be hit by a 220-mile snow wall at the end of April with temperatures set to drop. Weather maps from WXCharts generated on April 13 suggest snow could be falling in parts of northern England and Scotland on Friday, April 25.
The snow will arrive at midnight in parts of Yorkshire, including Sheffield, Rotherham and Barnsley, a map generated by WXCharts using MetDesk data suggests. According to WXCharts, there could be between one and five centimetres of snow as the mercury drops. Meanwhile, flurries will hit areas further north at the same time, with up to three centimetres forecast to fall per hour. In Scotland, the snow is set to hit Edinburgh and the Highlands. The mercury could also drop below freezing in some parts of western Scotland.
The maps from WXCharts also show heavy rain hitting Scotland on April 25. The downpours could fall at 4mm of rain per hour in northern parts of the nation at midnight.
London and parts of southeast England are also braced for heavy rain at the same time. The south coast is also forecast for downpours, while the southwest is mainly dry.
According to the Met Office's long-range forecast, the UK will see "much more mixed weather conditions" between Thursday, April 17 and Saturday, April 26. The forecaster says that there is a "risk of hail and thunder" as well as "gusty winds and heavy showers".
They describe the period as "unsettled" with mostly "changeable conditions". However, temperatures are expected to be around average for the time of year.
