Jeremy Vine has spoken out about his stalker being released from prison in June. The broadcaster was subjected to relentless online trolling and harassment by Alex Belfield, a former BBC Leeds host. Belfield was imprisoned for five and a half years for stalking Jeremy and three others in 2022, but he is due to be released this summer despite only serving half his sentence. The former BBC employee falsely claimed that Jeremy stole from a late friend’s memorial fund and posted about it on YouTube. In an interview with The Times, Vine candidly said he had several restraining orders against Alex.
"I expect he will set up again as ‘The Voice of Reason’,” said Vine, referring to Belfield's YouTube channel, "He’ll have his little merry band of followers." Jeremy previously labelled Belfield "the Jimmy Savile of trolling" before he was imprisoned.
The father of two also shared that his terrifying stalker hell inspired his new book, Murder on Line One. The plot is set at a Devon local radio station and follows talk show host turned detective Edward Temmis, who tackles numerous murders.
In other news, former Top Gear host Jeremy Clarkson has reignited his feud with Jeremy Vine by making savage comments about a cause close to his heart.
Vine—a keen cyclist—supported plans to install bike lanes at Holland Park roundabout near the Westfield Shopping Centre at Shepherd's Bush.
However, his opinion has prompted Clarkson to reignite their long-standing feud. Jeremy Vine tweeted to his fans, "I just saw this drawing of the new Holland Park Roundabout. THANK GOD someone is at last taking seriously the safety of vulnerable road users.
“Having a Grand Prix here every day is ridiculous. I’m speaking as one who uses it constantly, and it’s a huge barrier to happy commuting.” However, Jeremy Clarkson then entered the conversation with a brutal dig.
The Clarkson's Farm star replied in the comments section, "I use it frequently too. And it’s fine because I have a car, not a child’s toy." His response sparked over 10,000 likes on X and was greeted with euphoric comments from fans, some labelling Clarkson as "brilliant" and "top tier."
