Prince Andrew faces a new threat that could jeopardise his standing within the Royal Family. The Duke of York is under mounting pressure to relinquish his Royal titles following his withdrawal from public duties due to his association with convicted paedophile financier Jeffrey Epstein.

Despite holding several titles such as Duke of York, Earl of Inverness and Baron Killyleagh, he no longer makes public appearances. There are increasing calls for him to be stripped of these titles, which some argue bring disgrace to the areas he represents.

A GB News poll revealed that more than 70% of York residents believe he should lose his title, a sentiment echoed by two local Labour politicians. A similar petition was launched by Inverness residents back in 2019, although the power to strip him of his titles lies with the UK Government.

While the late Queen bestowed these honours upon him, Buckingham Palace does not have the authority to revoke them. This allows him to continue using these prestigious titles at events and in private correspondence.

Rachael Maskell, MP for York Central, has suggested that Andrew should forfeit his Duke of York title to sever ties with the city. Speaking to GB News, she said: "I do believe that the removal of the title of Duke would be an appropriate step."

She added: "York is a city of international standing with strong ethical values, and therefore the continuity of this title brings reputational disregard to the values of our city so its association should be discontinued. Having looked into this matter, this would require a change in the law, as we saw, the late Queen did not hold powers to remove the title, when she removed the other titles and appointments he had."

Luke Charters, another local Labour MP, also weighed in, saying: "It's a matter for the Royal Family as to whether Prince Andrew should give up the title. I hope the Royal Family consider the feelings of York residents on this issue."

Despite past disagreements with his brother over refusing to vacate the Royal Lodge and being caught up in new controversies, including connections with an alleged Chinese spy, Prince Andrews position remains somewhat protected as King Charles lacks the authority to strip him of his peerage; such actions are within the jurisdiction of the UK Parliament alone.

The Duke's image took a further blow after his notorious BBC Newsnight interview in 2019 discussing his association with Epstein. This high-profile debacle led to the late Queen removing his military titles and patronages in 2022, consequently, he is no longer permitted to use 'His Royal Highness' or HRH in any formal sense.

It's reported that he now leads a solitary life at Royal Lodge, occasionally visited by his daughters Beatrice and Eugenie, and shares the residence with his ex-wife Fergie. He still holds his patronage and is eighth in line to the throne.
