Queen Camilla has been asked if her husband would be taking it a little easier after his recent hospital admission - to which she replied with a hilarious two-word response. During their state visit to Italy last week, the King and Queen remained in Rome - a visit that aimed to strengthen the relationship between Italy and the UK.
The King was admitted to hospital at the end of March after experiencing side effects to his cancer treatment. Following this, experts and fans alike expressed whether the 76-year-old would now be more willing to slow down and take things slower - but, according to his wife, he does not.
After being asked this during their four-day Italian tour, the Queen jokingly replied: "Dream On!"
She then suggested that the King just wouldn’t be happy taking it easy, and he’s currently hellbent on making up for lost time - having had to postpone his public-facing duties for nearly three months last year, following his initial diagnosis in February 2024.
Speaking to UK newspapers in Rome, the Queen said: "He loves his work and it keeps him going.
"And I think it’s wonderful, you know, if you’ve been ill and you are recovering, you’re getting better and now he wants to do more and more and more. That’s the problem."
She then added: "That’s what he’s driven by. Helping others."
Following news of his hospital admission, the monarch cancelled his planned away day to Birmingham as a precautionary measure.
Speaking at the time, a source described it as a “most minor bump in a road that is very much heading in the right direction”.
Buckingham Palace said in a statement on March 27: "Following scheduled and ongoing medical treatment for cancer this morning, the King experienced temporary side effects that required a short period of observation in hospital. His Majesty’s afternoon engagements were therefore postponed. His Majesty has now returned to Clarence House and as a precautionary measure, acting on medical advice, tomorrow's diary programme will also be rescheduled.
"His Majesty would like to send his apologies to all those who may be inconvenienced or disappointed as a result."
