Princess Isabella of Denmark made a hilarious reference to a huge royal blunder in her first official speech on Friday. Born on April 21, 2007, King Frederik X and Queen Mary's eldest daughter is set to mark her milestone 18th birthday next week.
At a celebration in honour of her coming of age, Princess Isabella delivered her first solo address as she was supported by her parents and her 14-year-old twin siblings, Princess Josephine and Prince Vincent. Looking the spitting image image of her mum, Isabella was dressed in a pale blue power suit as she attended the event at Aarhus City Hall to watch musical performances, dancers and a fashion show which was organised by local youth talent.
Taking to the podium at the conclusion of the formal proceedings, Isabella chose to begin her speech with a cheeky joke.
As the room erupted into laughter, she told those in attendance, "Almost four years ago I found out that your words can be overheard when you least expect it. Today I have no doubt that the microphone is on."
Isabella's comment was reference to a moment in 2021 when she was caught on camera saying, "are you completely confused" to her mum. Her statement was made after her brother's confirmation as the family tried to arrange themselves for a family photo outside the church.
Danish publication BT's entertainment editor Fie West has since praised to royal's decision to start her first-ever official speech with a joke.
She said, "Princess Isabella shows great initiative by starting her very first official speech with a joke."
According to local Danish publication Billed Bladet, the opening line of Isabella's speech captured the attention of the audience.
At the end of her speech, the royal then thanked all those in attendance. She said, "Dear mayor, dear Aarhus, dear everyone who has come today. Thank you so much for a very special birthday celebration. It makes me really happy to be celebrated in a city that has great significance for me and my family."
