Rupert Penry-Jones is one of the stars of new Channel 5 drama The Feud. While it is well known he is married to award winning actress Derevla Kirwan, 53, who is best known for her work in Ballykissangel, Goodnight Sweetheart and Doctor Who, they are not the only famous members of the family. Rupert comes from a very well respected thespian line and he and his brother both followed his parents into the business.
The 54-year-old Whitechapel star is the son of Welsh actor Peter Penry-Jones and English actress Angela Thorne. His father, who died of bowel cancer in Anglesey in 2009, aged 70, boasted a very impressive CV, as he worked with the legendary actor Laurence Olivier at The National Theatre. On the small screen, he made waves in shows such as Colditz, The Professionals, To The Manor Born, Bergerac, Howards' Way, Kavanagh QC and Midsomer Murders.
Meanwhile his mother Angela Thorne, who died at home in Battersea aged 84 on 16 June 2023, is one of the most beloved faces ever to grace British screens.
She became a national treasure thanks to her role as Marjory Frobisher in the classic BBC sitcom To the Manor Born, which she played from 1979–1981 an reprised for a one off special in 2007.
Away from that role she has some other very impressive credits. In theatre her most famous role was as Margaret Thatcher who she played in in Anyone for Denis? She was nominated for Best Comedy Performance at the 1981 Laurence Olivier Awards for her efforts. She reprised the role in a TV film of the production.
She also made her mark in other acclaimed TV shows such as The Good Life, in which she appeared opposite her future To The Manor Born co-star Penelope Keith, Midsomer Murders, Foyle's War and Heartbeat.
Rupert's brother, Laurence Penry-Jones, 48, was also drawn to a career on screen and will be familiar to viewers from shows such as Waking the Dead and Doctors.
However he has since trasitioned to public service working as an ambulance driver.
His wife Polly Walker, 58, is also an actress, and is best known for her role as Lady Portia Featherington in Netflix hit Bridgerton , as well as an extensive CV.
She received a Golden Globe Award nomination for her role in the drama series Rome and BBC viewers will remember her from the drama Prisoners’ Wives and a part in Line of Duty.
