Brits might want to avoid becoming accustomed to the recent warm temperatures, with new weather charts suggesting that we might not have seen the last of the snow. Wintery weather maps from WXCharts.com - compiled using data from the Metdesk - suggest that large parts of the country could be blanketed by snow in late April.

According to the maps, overnight on April 24 could see snow blanket parts of Scotland and northern England in an unseasonal barrage. However, The Met Office takes a more cautious approach to the forecast for late April, warning instead that the country could experience “unsettled” conditions. Its long-range forecast for April 19 to April 28 said: “Into the following week, a similar pattern is likely at first with unsettled conditions at times with a risk of some heavy rain or showers.

“Later in the week settled weather is expected to become more prevalent, with more in the way of dry, sunny weather beginning to develop.

“Temperatures will probably be around normal or slightly above.”

According to the weather maps on WX Charts, as much as 3cm of snow could fall from midnight on April 24 from the south of Edinburgh stretching as far south as Greater Manchester.

Heavier snow is also expected concurrently in and around Inverness and the Scottish Highlands. Parts of Wales could also be hit by the snow bomb.

The prediction comes as Brits are told to “say goodbye to the wall-to-wall sunshine”, after a brief period of high temperatures.

Met Office Chief Meteorologist Jason Kelly said: “A change is on the way this weekend, as we say goodbye to the wall-to-wall sunshine. High pressure sinks southwards and allows low pressure to take hold bringing more cloud, rain and showers, and also lower temperatures.”

This week will see cooler temperatures and even a weather warning issued for rain from midday on Tuesday until noon on Wednesday.

Met Office Chief Meteorologist Matthew Lehnert explained: “After a long spell of high pressure bringing dry weather and sunshine, gloomier and unsettled conditions are on the horizon. Low pressure has become established to the west of the UK bringing cloud, rain showers, and lower temperatures for many.

“More persistent and heavy rain is expected on Tuesday into early Wednesday. A low-pressure system near Portugal is of particular interest as it moves towards the UK, bringing with it potentially heavy rain and thunderstorms. We have issued a yellow warning for rain from midday on Tuesday until Wednesday afternoon. The warning covers southwest England, Wales, and the northwest of England.

“High rainfall totals are possible, but given the recent dry conditions, significant impacts are not anticipated. The situation remains under close watch, with further wet conditions anticipated on Thursday and another weather front moving in on Friday.”
